The Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences/Hogeschool van Amsterdam (AUAS/HvA) is a knowledge institution that educates tomorrow’s professionals in a wide array of fields and disciplines of higher education. By connecting education and applied research, the AUAS enables students, lecturers and researchers to develop cutting-edge – and practical – knowledge and innovations for urban challenges. With nearly 47,000 students and 4,000 employees, the AUAS has 250 partner institutes across 50 different countries and is a founding member of the Urban Research and Education Knowledge Alliance.
The Urban Technology research program of the AUAS carries out applied research with the objective to support the market introduction of sustainable technologies. The multidisciplinary program focuses in the fields of smart mobility, sustainable energy, circularity, and urban design. Within urban design, climate change adaptation is a priority field of study. Important research lines include heat stress modelling and the development of tools to identify vulnerability of urban areas to (extreme) heat. The program also focuses on the design of climate-proof solutions for the urban environment to support the Dutch municipalities in the decision-making process.
